They Did WHAT?

So I just heard that Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron will be publishing some version of Darwin’s Origin of Species by Natural Selection with some sort of creationist disclaimer? Is this true? Tell me that’s not true, and that I don’t actually live in a country where even science has to bow down to religion? Oh wait – it’s me, Randall, and I’m right here in America. 

This is sad. Now, I’m definitely not one of those atheists who thinks that evolution can neatly explain everything. I don’t buy the idea that everything just suddenly came into existence from nothing for no reason, and I do think that sometimes people like Comfort make a point that is valid or worthy of hearing. They also say some pretty stupid things, like that last bit about the crocoduck or whatever it was. Somewhere we’ve got to draw the line.

I guess much of it really also depends on what the disclaimer is actually going to say. Will it deny or reject currently held facts? Or is it going to be something more like a disclaimer meant only to remind people they can look to “intelligent design” or some such stuff? Either way, I gotta get a copy. If I do I can do a follow-up post; that would be kinda cool.

Religious people sometimes hold themselves to the most absurd of double standards. Take for example the fact we see religious signs literally all over the place, especially in the midwest, yet now all the religious people are going to piss and moan about this sign or that from the FFRF? (By the way, when I start making some good money, I think I’d like to join an organization like that, one that supports freedom of thought).

Seriously I mean we’re supposed to tolerate who knows how many crosses and Holy Virgins and whatever the fuck else (Oh my mom would freak if she knew it was me that typed that one), and now those who are religious can’t have any sort of representation? Taxation, but no representation? Make the money equal then damnit!

Sadly, it’s going to get to the point where nobody’s allowed to express anything because somebody will be offended by something anybody says regardless of anybody!!

I came across this image while doing a Google image search for “creationists.” It caught my attention before it depressed me thoroughly. I think one of my biggest gripes against religion is that it so often turns a blind eye to anything not in the official cover story. I remember having WAY TOO MANY discussions with my dad about the whole “biology and the Bible” thing. My dad is not an idiot; he’s an engineer, yet a YEC, and that’s one thing that made it so hard: I know he’s not an idiot. To be honest, sometimes I think he looks at himself as some sort of maverick.

The point is, what’s the point of education if nobody wants to listen?

Can You Really Blame Him?

So, I had just finished importing all 19 of my posts from the past year into this nifty new WordPress software (that happened to eat all 7 comments, somehow… sorry Lawncare Jake and sammy, my only two guests so far!) when I overheard the barrista ask another coffee shop employee: “Did you hear about that 7-year-old in Utah who hopped in his parents car and took off to get out of church?

I almost spit coffee and espresso straight out  my nose. I immediately checked YouTube, and this is the most hilarious thing I’ve seen this year. At the end, the kid gets out and bolts like lightning for his front door. I wonder what the pursuing officer thought?? If you haven’t seen it  yet, here is the footage of Preston Scarbrough, the 7-year-old Utah boy who hopped in his parents’ car and successfully drove home, because he “didn’t want to be at church.” Anyone want to place a bet that Preston will be an atheist by the time he’s 10? Is church in Utah really that untolerable?

All I have to say is, I hope my son can drive that well by the time he’s seven!

Why Should Church People Hog The Street?

Sometimes when I’m riding my bike to work, I notice on Sundays all these church people. They park in the lanes, but it forces the bikers to go around the lanes and into traffic, and its really dangerous. It’s really just another irritating example of religion getting special treatment or what they would call “a free pass.” Double-parking in other scenarios you’ll sometimes get a ticket. Anyways. Not much today, else for this little rant.

If You Dish It Out, Take It

So, I know it’s last year’s news and all, but I’m sure this year we’ll have an equivalent fiasco.

What I’m talking about is… (drumroll, please) religious signs! If you’re from the midwest like me, then you know exactly what I’m talking about: big, in-your-face, sometimes clever sometimes revolting signs that advertise for God.

Well, I heard about the FFRF and how none of the religious folk really cared much for their sign, now isn’t that sort of strange? For 200 years, Christians get to bombard everybody else with all their “Jesus is the Reason for the Season” crap when in full reality December 25th is the solstice, but Mr. Barker – who coincidentally used to be a Christian – isn’t allowed to place the FFRF’s, which advocates celebration of the solstice?

Am I the only one who sees that something that isn’t really right here?

I was noticing my “stupidity” category only had one posting in it, when I stumbled across the perfect tidbit to change that fact: did you know they actually have a theme park for creationism?

Yup. It’s in Florida, and here’s what the website says:

Well, that about says it all. Who cares about science, right? I don’t get it. As if these ideas aren’t freely available in churches and Christian bookstores around the country, now they have to have their own theme park to inoculate young children in glorious 3-D?

Does this place have to pay taxes? Don’t even get me started if they don’t. Why should a theme park be exempt from taxation just because it’s based on the Bible? That’s about, oh, I dunno… fucking absurd?
